Good Deeds

Strangers: Loving from the Margins

The church is like our den where we meet others in our family and enjoy their fellowship. It is also where we pull up a chair to the table and eat a meal together to remember our Lord and Savior. Let’s also think about how we live our lives outside the church. Would our friends say that we do really good things for them and others? That’s how we should live, since we’ve been made good by the good work of Christ on the cross. Good deeds don’t earn our way into God’s family, but they should mark our lives as members of God’s family.

It’s clear that Christianity is not in the driver’s seat of cultural influence. The church is not the center of town or the voice of the public conscience. Biblical values are now intolerant and offensive. Christianity is continually being pushed to the side. And yet we still long for this world to know who Jesus is, but where do we start? Come and journey with us this May through August as we learn in the book of 1 Peter that we are indeed strangers in this land who have amazing opportunities to love from the margins.
