CloseAs part of the new humanity, we are called to "let your light shine before others, so they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven." However, Jesus cares about more than just outward performance. He cares about why we do what we do. This week we will examine our motives for why we practice our righteousness. Is it to be seen by others, to impress them and gain their approval? Or is it an act of love for our Father since we know we already have his approval because of Jesus? Our motives make all the difference.
Scripture References: Matthew 6:16-18, Matthew 6:1-8

From the events of his birth and throughout his life, Jesus reshaped the religious and cultural expectations of his day so as to make all of it about himself. He completely turns things on their head—flipped upside down—even for us today. Either this is the bold move of a narcissistic megalomaniac or this is the beginning of a subversive movement of grace that would change the course of history forever. Let's take a closer look at the most famous sermon of all time and see how Jesus inaugurated God's new humanity.
