Moving Forward!

COVID-19 Policy Update

Based upon the most recently revised guidelines from the CDC and PA Department of Health, beginning June 1st, those who have been fully vaccinated will not be required to wear masks inside Chelten’s building or at our services or activities.

This past week, the PA Department of Health announced that the state-wide mask mandate will be lifted by June 28 at the latest. When the mask mandate is lifted, masks will become optional and will not be required inside Chelten’s building, or at any of our services or activities, regardless of vaccination status or age. The elder board will continue to monitor this policy, being informed by the guidelines from the PA Department of Health, and will communicate with the Chelten family as necessary.

Today we are announcing our plan to move forward regarding our COVID-19 protocol.

Thank you for your patience throughout the process. We acknowledge that this has been, and continues to be, a sensitive topic for many of us.

Many of you have expressed your support. We have heard many disagreements as well. We, as a church, have researched and studied not only our government guidelines, but also the policies of local churches around us, and there isn’t an easy option for us.

The following statement does not come only from Jin or the PLT. It comes from the entire board of elders which include PLT members as well.

We are making the statement available on the website and other venues to ensure as many people are informed as possible.

The elders and pastoral staff are happy to answer any questions that you might have.

Now some of you are thinking, “Jin, it’s about time.”

And some of you are thinking, “That’s too divisive.”

And some of you are thinking, “Man…, I am nervous about all this.”

We understand where your reservations or excitement is coming from, and your voice and opinions are valued.

That being said, we sincerely pray that neither masks nor vaccination status become the center point of who we are as a church.

With prayer and your counsel, we are treading this ground as carefully and yet as courageously as we can. May we, as a church, continually extend grace and love to one another without judgement regardless of a person’s background, upbringing, culture, political inclination, mask-wearing, or vaccination status.

May none of those be our Scarlet Letter, but rather an opportunity to extend grace and love to one another as was shown to us at the cross of Jesus Christ.

How powerful a testimony would it be, church, that even when we disagree with one another, we still love one another wholeheartedly because we worship the same triune God?

Sometimes we lack wisdom in how to do so.

So let’s go before the Lord in prayer.
